Mission Statement
The Department of Public Safety & Emergency Management safeguards the health, security, and resilience of all Cheasequah Nation citizens and territories. Grounded in traditional principles of protection and community watch, this department ensures emergency readiness, disaster response, law enforcement coordination, and public preparedness while honoring Indigenous values of collective responsibility and restorative justice.
Core Divisions & Services
1. Peacekeeping & Law Enforcement Oversight
Tribal Peacekeeping Corps recruitment and deployment
Enforcement of tribal code and interagency coordination with external law enforcement
Public patrols, civil mediation, and jurisdiction-based crime prevention
Ethical training and restorative justice integration into public response
2. Fire & Rescue Operations
Tribal Fire Services and Volunteer Brigades
Fire prevention training and community safety education
Coordination with rural fire departments for dual coverage
Emergency equipment acquisition and grant development support
3. Emergency Preparedness & Disaster Response
Emergency operations planning (EOP) for tribal lands and facilities
Mobile response unit development and shelter coordination
Incident command training and drills for storms, floods, wildfires, and civil events
Mutual aid agreements with neighboring municipalities and tribal nations
4. Community Alert & Safety Communications
Emergency text and email alert systems (opt-in for tribal residents)
Safety drills in schools and administrative buildings
Communication protocols for large-scale evacuations or hazards
Elders’ wellness check systems during climate or medical crises
5. Resilience Hubs & Community Response Programs
Coordination with Health, Housing, and Food teams during emergencies
Deployment of mental health support and trauma recovery after events
Youth volunteer corps, safety ambassador programs, and CERT training
Emergency preparedness education (first aid, CPR, survival skills, emergency kits)
